The word acne it comes from a Greek word that means "efflorescence" or "movie" . It is a disease of the skin caused by the chronic inflammation of the sebaceous glands .

Excessive secretions of these glands, along with dead skin cells, cause a blockage in the hair follicle. Under the clogged pore, fat secretions harbor the epidermal bacteria Propionibacterium acnes , which infects the pore and causes the excretion of pus.

Acne usually appears on the face and back during puberty , as an abnormal response to the hormone testosterone. Over time, acne usually decreases or even disappears.

In addition to hormonal activity, acne is partially inherited and can arise from the stress , the accumulation of dead skin cells, the presence of bacteria in the pores and exposure to high levels of chlorine.

On the other hand, there are factors that are usually mentioned as causing acne but, according to specialists, they are not. Some foods , such as fried or chocolate, are high in fat and promote sebaceous secretions, so they can make existing acne worse. However, various scientific studies claim that they would not cause the disease to emerge.

There are various types of acne based on the external appearance they have and at the time of their appearance. Thus, we find, for example, the so-called acne vulgaris that is the one that occurs most commonly among adolescents and that is characterized by the appearance of pimples or pustules on the neck and face.

In the same way, we can also talk about premenstrual acne which is the one that, as its name implies, manifests itself on the woman's face during the period before her period comes.

Another of the most frequent types is acne neonatorum, which is the one that presents all newborns and that appears especially during the first 72 hours of life. And we can not forget the tropical acne that receives this name because it appears in the parts of the body that are considered more humid and warm as would be the case of the buttocks or thighs, among other things.

The most common treatment for acne is usually the skin peel , which can be achieved through an abrasive cloth or by some chemical procedure with acid salicylic or Glycolic Acid . Other treatments include bactericides, antibiotics and hormonal treatments.

In this sense we can not forget that there are various treatments or home remedies against acne as would be the case, for example, the daily application on the grains of aloe vera gel or a few drops of lemon juice.

Garlic, cucumber, oatmeal, carrot or even alcohol itself are other products that are used to carry out home treatment of acne problems as established by the so-called "grandmother's remedies" .
