The orthopedics is the technique what seeks to correct or prevent deformities of the human body through body exercises or various devices . Braces are called orthosis or orthosis , and differ from prosthesis (which seek to artificially replace some part of the body which, for some reason, is missing).

Many are the entities worldwide that group orthopedic technicians. Specifically, in Spain there are the CEO (Spanish Orthopedic Confederation), the FEDOP (Spanish Federation of Orthotics and Prosthetists) and the FETOR (Spanish Federation of Orthopedic Technicians).

The traumatology It is another concept related to orthopedics. This branch of the discipline is dedicated to the treatment of patients with trauma, fractures or deformities of different kinds.

Splinted immobilization, for example, is a traumatology technique that dates back to the origins of the medicine . At X century , the implementation of the plaster by impulse of Persian doctors arose. Orthopedic specialization began to develop in the century XVIII to correct and prevent deformities.

It is attributed to Dr. Nicolas Andry de Boisregard the creation of the emblem that, even today, identifies orthopedics: a crooked tree that tries to be corrected by an external guide.

The first orthopedic institute would have been created by Jean-André Venel in Switzerland for the treatment of skeletal injuries in children. Venel, for this reason, is considered the father of modern orthopedics and the inspirer of today's orthopedic centers.

Bandages, splints and casts, and tractions, in conclusion, are part of orthopedic activities.
